Sarara Momokawa was born in Vancouver, Canada. Soon after, she moved to Tokyo, Japan, where she began taking piano lessons at the age of six. Three years later, she enrolled in the “Young Performers” program at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA, USA, studying with Anne Perrault. She later studied with Randall Hodgkinson at the Walnut Hill School in Natick, MA, USA as a student in the New England Conservatory Preparatory Division.
Her performance on the radio show “Fromthetop” with selections from the Bach’s Goldberg Variations enabled her to receive a substantial merit scholarship for her study at the Walnut Hill School. She attended later the BMus program at the Royal Academy of Music in London, studying solo piano with Aaron Shorr and chamber music with Clifford Benson and Michael Dussek. There she was highly commended in the piano/violin duo Wilfred Parry prize with her violinist, Ani Batikian.
